Shweli-3 Roller-compacted concrete (RCC) Gravity Dam in Myanmar

Site visit to Shweli-3 hydropower project was made on 29th November 2018. Shweli-3 hydropower project is located on Shweli River in Shan State, Myanmar. This project involves foreign investors such as Électricité de France S.A and Marubeni Corporation, as well as local companies.

Rural towns near this project, such as Mongmit (also known as Momeik), currently do not have access to regular electricity. An important strategy of this project is to provide electricity to such rural areas, as well as to improve living standards and promote economic development. This hydropower plant is expected to generate 671 megawatts of power, which is sufficient to provide regular electricity to approximately 60,000 households. This is also a big step towards a reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The following photos are taken as of 29th November 2018:
